Employability of Computer Science Students
A talk on employability of current Indian students, who are from Computer Science background, was conducted under the aegis of the chapter, at Safy Institute of Advanced Studies (SAIS), an arts and science college in the district, where the resource person was Mr. Arunanand T A, Chair of NIT Calicut ACM Student Chapter. This event was conducted as part of the chapter’s school service program.
State-of-the-art of Computer Science
A talk on State-of-the-art of Computer Science was delivered by Mr. Mohammed Yazar, NIT Calicut, as part of the School Service Program of NIT Calicut ACM Student Chapter, at SAFI Institute of Advanced Study (SAIS). The talk discussed the state-of-the-art research fields of Computer Science. The talk was attended by 110 students of the college.
Vice President of ACM visits NIT Calicut
As part of NIT Calicut ACM Student Chapter’s Distinguished Lecture Programme (DSP, duly funded by ACM Headquarters) Prof. Alexander Wolf, Vice President of ACM and Professor, Imperial College, London, visits NIT Calicut on February 19, 2013 at 9:00 AM. He will deliver a talk on Content Based Networking – A New Communication Service. The talk shall be conducted at CSED Seminar Hall.

NIT Calicut ACM Student Chapter organized a DSP by Dr. Alexander Wolf, Professor in the Department of Computing at Imperial College London (UK), Vice President of the Association for Computing Machinery and a member of the Executive Committee of the ACM Council. He is one of the very few persons in the world, who is the fellow of both ACM and IEEE. The event was organized by Computer Science and Engineering Association, NITC and NITC ACM Students Chapter. Prof. Wolf is an ACM Distinguished Speaker and his visit was facilitated by ACM India council.The lecture was on Content Based Networking, and was attended by faculty and students from all departments. Prof. Wolf also had an interaction with the faculty and students of the CSE department after the lecture. Prof. Wolf, before the tech talk, inspired the audience to be ACM members, by briefing the benefits.
He had a chat with the office bearers of the chapters and congratulated the team for the growth it has acquired with in a small span of time. He also had a meeting with a group of faculty members of Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, where academic and research matters were discussed.
OpenVirtualization and Cloud
As part of the M N Neelakantan Memorial Talk Series of Dept of Computer Science and Engineering, NIT Calicut ACM Student Chapter will organize a talk on OpenVirtualization and Cloud by Ms. Supriya Kanneri, IBM India. The talk will be open to all the students, faculty members, and staff.

The third lecture in the Prof. M N Neelakantan Memorial Lecture Series was given by Supriya Kanneri, Advisory Software Engineer, IBM and an NITC alumnus on the topic “Open Virtualization and the Cloud“. Supriya Kannery has been working with Linux kernel support and validation of KVM for cloud solutions at Linux Technology Centre, IBM for 5 plus years. The event was organised by the NITC ACM Students chapter
and Computer Science and Engineering department, in memory of Prof. M N Neelakantan, who was the first Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in NITC.
The lecture was attended by students and faculty members from various departments.
