Workshop on Fundamental of C Programming

NIT Calicut ACM Student Chapter, in association with Computer Society of India NITC Chapter, organizes an 8-day Workshop on Fundamental of C Programming, exclusively for the First Year Undergraduate students of NIT Calicut. These sessions are offered free of cost, and is open to any undergradaute student in the campus. The sessions will start on January 2, 2013 at SS Lab. Registrations on the spot.

Update (January 22, 2013)

NIT Calicut ACM Students chapter, in association with Computer Science and Engineering Association and Computer Society of India Chapter of NITC jointly conducted an  8-day long hands-on series on “Fundamentals of C”. Although the sessions were intended for those students who are weak in computer programming, the response was overwhelming with the students being positive about the impact of the session in their programming skills.

Sessions were conducted on Mondays to Thursdays, after class hours in the Software Systems Laboratory.  All the sessions were hands-on, and the students were taught enough theory before the real programming session. Each day was handled by different resource persons from BTech CSE, MTech CSE and MCA students. There were 3-4 students to assist the resource persons on each day.

A Workshop on Product Engineering will be conducted by NIT Calicut ACM Student Chapter in association with a delegation from Tata Consultancy Services. This shall be open to all the students.

Update (January 14, 2013)

A five member team from Tata Consultancy Services visited the Computer Science and Engineering Department on 11th January, 2013. The team consisted of Dr Suman Bhattacharya, Component Engineering Group, Debiprasad Swain, Head, Engineering Services Group, Ms. Reeja Goerge, Academic Relationship Manager – Kerala, TCS and two other employees of TCS. The talk began at 10:00 AM at CSED Seminar Hall after a formal welcome by Dr. S D Madhukumar, HOD of CSED.

Dr. Suman took the lead of the workshop. He worked on latest trends in Software Product Engineering, with special reference to those used by TCS. He added that TCS is now into Product Engineering, specifying the challenges and needs of today. He motivated the students to pursue Internships at TCS and offered the best experience. The talk ended with an FAQ session where students raised some technical as well as non-technical doubts to which Dr. Suman replied appropriately.

Career and Placement Orientation

A Career and Placement Orientation will be conducted for the First Year Graduate students, by NIT Calicut ACM Student Chapter, on January 8, 2013. Those who are interested may kindly reach MB 202 at 3:45 PM. Open to all the first year graduate students of Computer Science and Engineering.

Update (January 10, 2013)

An orientation session for the Post Graduate CSE students was organized by NIT Calicut ACM Student Chapter on 8th January, 2013, 3:45 PM at Room No: MB 202. The session was attended by all the first year MTech CSE students and was handled by the second year MTech CSE students (40 Nos.), who are already placed through campus placements.

The talk was an interactive session. There were plenty of doubts and questions from the attendees. Those who handled the sessions answered all of them and each representative explained the questions they had been asked during their interviews. Also, suggestions on preparation, books and materials to be followed, etc. were also discussed. The session ended at 5:00 PM.

Update (January 15, 2013)

 

A Talk on “Cyber Crimes and Cyber Forensics” was organized by NIT Calicut ACM Student Chapter and Computer Science & Engineering Association, NIT Calicut and presented by Dr. P Vinod Bhattathirippad, Cyber Forensic Consultant  to police, judiciary income tax department and banks in India and abroad on cvil/criminal cases concerning software priracy and digital data recovery issues, since 2007.He is the first Asian and one among the very few in the world with a Doctorate in forensic area.

The talk was on the topics of Cyber crime in general, Jurisdiction against cyber crime and Dr. Vinod also shared instances from his experiences as a Cyber-Expert Witness. He also inaugurated the CSEA website and the CSEA wiki.

Programming Competition

A programming competition will be conducted by NIT Calicut ACM Student Chapter, in association with College of Engineering Guindy. This competition will be open to the NITCians only, and shall be conducted online at SS Lab.

Update (January 10, 2013)

A Programming Competition was conducted by NIT Calicut ACM Student Chapter on 3rd January, 2013, at 9:30 AM at Software Systems Laboratory. The competition was online using SPOJ. This was organized in association with the prelims (XCEED ’13) of the programming competition of CoE, Guindy’s technical festival.

The teams were allowed to choose any programming language of their choice. There were a total of 5 questions, where the team consisting of Tijo Jose and Nimish Joseph (MTech CSE 2011-13) won the First Prize (Rs. 5000/-). Ayush Jaiswal and Anunay Bhargava (BTech CSE 2014) won the Second Prize (Rs. 3000/-) and Rahul P and Jerrin Shaji George (BTech CSE 2013) won the Third Prize (Rs. 2000/-). The team which came first is allowed to attend the finals of the coding competition directly (without pursuing spot prelims at CoE, Guindy). T-shirts of the event were also distributed.
